Meet the team: Female Empowerment through education with Lizzy
Lizzy is one of our trustee's and the Sade Lumi Education marketing director. She shares her thoughts on the value of education for women and how she plans to use her experience to enhance the work of Sade Lumi Education.
When Teele approached me to join the team of trustees in the summer and I was over the moon! I felt so lucky and honoured she asked me to be part of the project and to help her work on the marketing for the charity.
I have always been an advocate of the importance of education and believe it is the key to enhancing our lives for the better. I have been privileged to receive a rich education with very few barriers throughout my life. It doesn’t sit well with me that some girls won’t receive the same.
I can not imagine my gender being something which impacts my chances of receiving a fair education. In the words of Michelle Obama, “When girls are educated, their countries become stronger and prosperous”. This quote really resonates with me and is one I hold close to my heart and the charity. One of the reasons our country is so developed and strong is due to the opportunities women are given.
We are surrounded by fairer education, careers and overall livelihood, it is a privilege often taken for granted; espeically when we compare to other less developed countries. If there is anything I want to gain from this project, it is the chance for women and young girls to feel empowered. For them to feel they have the same limitless chances I felt I have been given throughout my education.
I am really excited to be part of this project and can’t wait for it to progress further, I think I will learn so much!
